About GreenMann Aquatics

Greenmann Aquatics is run by David Green and Lucie Mann, so choosing a name was very easy!

Underwater Koi Carp

David has worked in the aquatics industry all his life; he was given his first fish tank at the age of four which housed a few goldfish. He has never been without fish since – and that’s a long time! David trained at Sparsholt College, passing the HND in fish farming and fisheries management. Although he worked as fish farmer for a while he soon went on to work in the ornamental fish industry. Since then he has worked for many different companies from wholesalers, large chains and small shops.

David constantly strives to improve the aquatics industry for customers and the welfare of the fish, setting standards not following them.

Koi Carp

David also has a talent for fixing plumbing problems and if you can’t work out which way your pipes need to go to get the best from your filtration he can sort it!

With the opening of Greenmann Aquatics David is now able to show his skills to their best, and if you visit us over a period of time you will see his ideas in action.

Lucie Mann has a passion for all living things and although has mainly worked with small animals in mixed stores, she has also worked in dedicated aquatic centres.

Lucie is the one who gets to run the office and the smooth operation of the store. She believes in good service and that shopping should be an enjoyable experience, especially when you are buying fish!

David and Lucie met when they were both working in an aquatics centre – defiantly love in the fish room! They have been together for 14 years and now have a son called Robbie who is 5 and has his own coldwater tank in his bedroom – like father like son.

So are Greenmann Aquatics really green?

Koi Carp & Flower

Well we try to be.........It can be very difficult to be green in business. All our shelving in the shop is recycled from another shop. Most of the equipment used in our quarantine facility is recycled.

In the shop its self we only use recycled paper. And only print when we need to and try and get our suppliers to email us rather than send a fax. We recycle all of our rubbish correctly. And try and reuse the huge amounts of cardboard we get sent.

There can be a lot of plastic waste in fish keeping. Unfortunately there is no alternative as yet for transporting fish. So what we do is reuse the bags that we get our fish sent to us in for aquarium plants. And where possible we reuse bigger koi bags for plants.

As we grow most of the pond plants we sell, we will reuse plant pots during the growing process, and make a lot of our own compost.

Air and road miles can be a major problem with this industry so we are working hard to source products as locally as possible. One of our plans is to be able to offer English bred tropical fish, these tend to be bigger and much hardier, the downside is they do tend to be a lot more expensive. But they will have a very small carbon fin print. If you would like more information on this then please join our mailing list.
