Local radio station Wave 105 holds a charity auction every year to raise money for its charity Cash for Kids. This year Greenmann Aquatics and Locally based Aqua One teamed up to donate a prize. This consisted of an Aqua One Evo 70 complete tropical Aquarium & stand, gravel etc plus a voucher for £50 of plants and fish, as well as Greenmann Aquatics setting up the tank in the lucky winners home. The lucky winner was Stephen Ashford, who bid £220 for the auction lot. This is one of those times when everything works out really well, as not only did Stephen get a real bargain, wave 105 got money towards the charity, but Stephen really needed the help to set the tank up as 6 years ago he was run over by a taxi. He used to work as a nurse, but now has difficulty in moving his arms and has a large metal plate in his head. Stephen used to keep fish but had to give them up when he moved in to live with his son. Stephen is understandably thrilled at his new tank, Greenmann Aquatics and Aqua one are pleased to have been able to help Stephen as well as wave 105 Cash For Kids.
Manderins’ are one of our favourite fish here at Greenmann Aquatics. If you have them in your tank do remember they need lots of live food.
Pink Diamond Angels – A little bit special these guys – glittering scales in a really subtle shade of pink. We like these so much we have two pairs at home, at the moment we are still waiting for them to settle down and start breeding. Hopefully soon we will have our own home bred pink angels for sale.
Tricolour Ranchu - A new colour variety of ranchu, really full of character. We try and stock some of the more interesting fancy coldwater fish available.
The fish is a yamabuki ogon 24” long. Robbie is our son and is 5 ½ , and most definitely loves his koi! Since we opened the shop he tells everyone that he will “run mummy’s and daddy’s shop for them when he grows up”. He already has bought himself a small tank for his bedroom, he earned the money by helping us in the shop. He pushes the button to put the oxygen in the fish bags. And opens the boxes when we have deliveries, and is quite good at getting stock in the right places. He also likes to show any children that come into the shop around which is a great help when customers are choosing fish, Robbie keeps the kids amused with a child’s eye view of the shop! And he can already put fittings together to move water in different shapes. But it is back to school soon for more conventional learning!
This is a Red and Black PearlscaleWe love our indoor coldwater fancy’s, and try and have as many different types available as possible. Of course this is dependent on supplies, but all the fancy coldwater fish are quarantined at our separate off site quarantine unit, ensuring that by the time they reach the shop they are in the best condition possible. There are 24 tanks in our coldwater system ranging from 48" to 12", but as with all our tanks they are 18" deep giving plenty of space.

The sound of running water is very soothing – many people do not want to or are unable to have a pond and so having an Aquifer is the perfect way to introduce running water to the garden. We have a selection of water features from spiral rocks to large upright rocks. We also stock all the pumps, sumps, grids, pebbles etc for you to add that special touch to your garden. As each piece of rock is unique come and visit us to see the full range.
This picture shows our plant tables in September 2008, whilst most places have sold out of plants or have let them die, we still have a huge range of healthy stock. This is because we grow about 75% of the plants ourselves and so can bring fresh plants in every day and know how to keep them at their best throughout the season. The autumn can be a good time to plant up your pond, you can add plants so that they will have all of the next season to grow and you get the full enjoyment of every stage of the pond coming to life. If you are looking for that hard to find pond or bog plant please do contact us, as we have lots of rare gems from around the world.
